All full-power television stations in the US will stop broadcasting on analog airwaves and begin broadcasting only in digital on February 17, 2009. Improved picture, sound quality and additional channels will be a benefit of digital broadcasting. The FCC did not make digital broadcast tuners mandatory in televisions until March 1, 2007.
The new digital standard may affect your televisions if you currently receive your television signal from an antenna. Analog TVs will need additional equipment to receive Over-the-air television when the DTV transition ends. This equipment is very inexpensive and easy to install.
